Welcome to the Modern Energy Investor ForumSM 2008. We are excited to bring you this dynamic and diverse group of companies and experts for this most important program. Certainly the issues around energy are of major interest to investors and analysts and although the economic conditions are currently very challenging, the opportunities in modern energy are still attracting capital investment.
Energy - where does it come from - how much is needed to keep the lights on - how much does it cost - how do we capture it - how much does it pollute - and who controls it? These are all valid questions and concerns of people today.
The Modern Energy Investor Forum offers a look at all of these questions and will provide valuable information about Energy and its current status. There are a broad range of energy solutions today and even more being developed for tomorrow. Hence, the title "Modern Energy," which includes the more typical clean, alternative, renewable, efficiency, and sustainable sources. The panel of experts, company presentations, guest speakers, specialists and innovators on this program will bring a spectrum of energy solutions to this audience.
The recent economic challenges in the US and globally have generated extreme volatility in both commodity prices and the company stocks that represent them. Oil prices up to $147 a barrel in July, were a reflection of the supply and demand challenges facing consumers worldwide. And with energy demand growth estimated to be around 55% worldwide from 2005 to 2030, there is clearly a need for added energy sources - and not just in oil and gas; also coal, nuclear, wind, solar, geothermal, hydro, biomass, biofuels, efficiencies and others.
We need Innovation - Brian Binnie, civilian astronaut, is our Key Note Speaker. Join us to meet the test pilot for Burt Rutan's award winning SpaceShipOne. Brian flew the first and the last powered flights of the vehicle. In the process he opened up the vehicle's envelope to supersonic flight, beat the long standing altitude record of the X-15 and clenched the $10M X-Prize.

They will argue that as our grid ages we cannot ignore the stark reality that our infrastructure needs change. .this change must be implemented before we adopt science projects and expensive renewables, In addition, a section of the program will focus on energy plays in Asia. Two companies based in China (one public and one privately held) will be speaking about their companies and the amazing growth opportunities they foresee in the near future. Also, on the program is Professor Ali Malkawi, the founder of the Penn-Tsinghua University Center for Building Simulation & Environmental Studies. He is one of the foremost experts on building energy simulation and will speak to the audience about energy simulation and energy conservation.
The presenting sponsor companies are a critical part of the Modern Energy Investor Forum and this section of the magazine features individual corporate profiles for companies presenting at the conference.
